Dead Leaf is a one-slot defensive trinket in Mina the Hollower that turns Mina into a silent statue while she remains still. It is primarily a stealth and survival tool, but community testing has also found powerful uses for it in summon-based boss builds.

What Does Dead Leaf Do?
Dead Leaf's in-game effect reads:
Hold still with this leaf to turn into a silent statue. Breaks if you move.
After Mina remains still briefly, she transforms into a statue. Enemies generally stop targeting or reacting to her while the transformation is active.
Community testing also indicates that the statue prevents damage from many ordinary attacks and numerous boss attacks. However, the game description only explicitly confirms the statue and stealth behavior, so Dead Leaf should not be described as guaranteed immunity to every attack or environmental hazard.
How to Activate Dead Leaf
Equip Dead Leaf in an available Trinket Slot, then release all directional input and allow Mina to remain completely still. After a brief moment, she will transform into the statue automatically.
No separate activation button is required.
Moving in any direction ends the transformation. Do not treat Dead Leaf like a timed invulnerability skill with a separate trigger window.
Dead Leaf Limitations
Dead Leaf is powerful, but it has several important restrictions:
- Mina must remain stationary to maintain the statue.
- Any movement immediately ends the effect.
- The trinket provides no direct offensive bonus by itself.
- It is difficult to use in encounters that require constant repositioning.
- Moving arenas, forced movement and encounter-specific mechanics can make the strategy unreliable.
- The effect should not be presented as universal immunity to every boss attack, phase or environmental hazard.
Avoid claiming that attacks, healing, jumping or every other non-directional action definitely preserve or cancel the statue unless those actions have been tested separately. The confirmed cancellation condition is movement.
Best Dead Leaf Synergies
Beckoning Collar
Beckoning Collar is the strongest known partner for Dead Leaf. Mina can summon the companion before becoming a statue, allowing the summon to continue attacking while Mina remains protected and stationary.
This is especially effective against bosses that the companion can reach without requiring Mina to reposition.
Joule Syringe
Joule Syringe can support the Beckoning Collar strategy by allowing Sidearms to continue functioning after Joules are depleted, at the cost of health when its conditions are met.
The combination is powerful, but it is still encounter-dependent and should not be described as effective against every boss.
Is Dead Leaf Worth Equipping?
Dead Leaf is worth equipping for defensive play, summon-focused builds and challenge runs. Its one-slot cost makes it easy to add when a fight allows Mina to remain in one position.
It is especially useful for:
- Surviving dangerous attacks while learning a boss
- Supporting Beckoning Collar summon builds
- Low-health or low-completion challenge runs
- Encounters where enemies can reach Mina but cannot force her to move
It is less useful for:
- Fast melee builds
- General exploration that requires constant movement
- Bosses with moving arenas or unreachable weak points
- Encounters that repeatedly force Mina to reposition
On its own, Dead Leaf is situational. When paired with a summon that can deal damage independently, it becomes one of the strongest defensive trinkets in the game.

Dead Leaf is obtained by triggering the Leaf event near Septemburg Farm Crossing in Kindlewood and then attending the funeral at Occupied Bridge in Western Wilds.

Best use cases
- Use Dead Leaf for blind exploration, long runbacks, and routes where one mistake can cost too many Bones.
- Equip it when the route problem matches the effect instead of filling every slot with raw damage.
- Swap away from it for bosses or rooms where the passive effect does not create a clear advantage.
- For 100% routes, write down why it is equipped before a pickup, boss split, or cleanup loop; if the reason is vague, another Trinket is probably cleaner.
